![]() ![]() You'd probably be better off with maya cinema4d as well. You could also try Nvil or Silo (sadly silo is no longer supported), both of which are much faster at giving you direct access to the tools. ![]() If you just need to make models, you might be better off with blender if you need something that is free. Luxology put little to no thought about how to use hotkeys or setup hotkeys. It is probably the clickiest application of any 3d application out there, people complain about this on the modo forums and lux does not care. It has some powerful features but most of it is locked behind a clunk workflow of click click click. Here are a couple of videos worth watching to get an idea of what I tried to cover. Its just a great experience which makes it harder to switch back to other software. There is just too much which makes Modo unique or stand out. It have live progressive baking and rendering, which you can see in the viewport. Think Maya's Viewport 2.0 but more next gen (still a work in progress). but some of the other stand out features are Mesh Fusion, which is a live boolean feature (check it out on youtube), as well as an advanced viewport which is built off of Mari's viewport. Stupidly simple to set up pie menus and personalized floating menus through whats called a form editor. Good selection of Tools and a pipeline feature which allows users to create new "tools" based off the settings, actions and combinations of other tools.Ĩ. They act as modifiers which when mixed with everything from modeling to animation empower the user in ways beyond what you are used to seeing.ħ. Some of the best snapping options found in any 3d application.Ħ. Dynamic workplane that acts as a secondary grid which can be snapped to any surface for localized work.ĥ. Again this is similar to say 3d coat or topogun.ģ. it has a dedicated tool called the retopo pen which you can create new geometry that snaps to a surface, drag out edges to create new gemoetry and snap everything into place. Modo UV editting is closer to the stand alone UV tools. Regarding other applications, what puts it above the rest is:ġ. So what you get is a very seamless process in which tools and functions can carry over into each workspace you toggle or create for yourself. So from Modeling its a painless transistion into sculpting, retopology and UV editting and painting (the controls and interaction are the same). Regarding the tight integration, Modo understands the workflow perfectly. You end up saving a lot of time in the process. getting edge loops or even patterned selections is incredibly simple. Modo feels like it is reading your mind when you go for selections. Also, selections are by far the best I have seen in any 3d package so far. This means you can hit one hotkey and get 3 tools in one easy to use tool. So for example, Bevel in Modo also works as your extrude and your inset tool. it streamlines and automates a lot of tasks and tools other applications have seperated into a larger assortment of tools and hokeys. the best way to describe what it has over other 3d applications is that while being "smart", its features are all tightly integrated into eachother.
